Our Process
Central Bridge Farms proudly raises all-natural Black Angus cattle, pasture-raised Berkshire pigs, & free-range chickens. Livestock are ethically raised: free from hormones, antibiotics, & feed additives.
The Cattle
Our herd consists of 100% registered Black Angus cattle. This top-performing breed is known for its superior meat quality, natural marbling, & pleasant temperament. With the first brood cow arriving on our farm in 1964, we are incredibly proud of the advances made within our genetic program. The herd is rotationally grazed throughout a series of paddocks. Rotational grazing offers a variety of benefits such as increased forage yields, improvements to soil biodiversity, decreased soil erosion, & limits pests.
Our cattle are on pasture 365 days a year!
The Pigs
Our pig drove consists mainly of Berkshire/Berkshire-cross breeds. Berkshires are a world renowned heritage breed known for their superior pork quality. Frequently labeled as “gourmet” by culinary experts, Berkshire pork is tender with succulent fats & juices.
Our pasture-raised pigs are supplemented with high quality grain while allowed to freely forage through pastures. The increased exercise helps build muscle naturally & improve overall meat quality.
The Chickens
Our laying hens are a well-blended group consisting of White Leghorns, Sapphire Gem, Starlight Green Eggers, Prairie Bluebell Eggers, & Americana breeds. These breeds are cold-hardy and docile, producing a rainbow assortment of eggs. Our chickens are free-range allowing them access to the outdoors with plenty of space for scavenging bugs.
Our broiler chickens are pasture-raised Cornish-Crosses. This variety matures within a 6-8 week window, depending on the time of year. Our broilers are housed in a portable pasture coop. The coop protects the broilers from predators while providing the birds with fresh space on a daily basis.
Fresh Produce & Flowers
Our produce is grown using holistic management and organic practices (although we are not certified as organic). We do not use any synthetic fertilizers or pesticides on our farm, rather we opt for more natural solutions; such as straw on our garden beds, natural fertilizer from the livestock, and weeding by hand. Such intense labor practices have limited the expansion of produce on our farm, however, we continue to choose quality over quantity. You can still find a variety of fruits & vegetables in our farm store throughout the growing season.
In 2023 we installed a high tunnel to aid in vegetable & flower production. Bouquets are made using sunflowers, dahlias, cosmos, snapdragons, zinnias, & foraged wildflowers/ferns from around our farm. We often add herbs such as lavender, sage, mint, & thyme to our bouquets for an unique aromatic element.
Homemade Baked Goods
We bake a wide variety of small batch baked goods with great attention to detail; from the hand crimped edges of the pie crust to the delicate bows tied on our packages. The majority of our ingredients are sourced fresh from our farm or local farms in the area. These ingredients include eggs, fruit, berries, & maple syrup. Even our flour, sugar, & spices are purchased from a nearby Amish store. Our fresh ingredients and vintage recipes provoke an unmatched nostalgia.
Baked goods include: sourdough, sweet breads, brownies, cakes, cupcakes, cookies, muffins, pies, & scones.
Every week our recipes change based on the availability of the ingredients in season: from strawberries in spring, to peaches & blueberries in summer, apples in the fall, and molasses in winter.
